There’s the beginning, when you’re born, the end, when you die, and the middle. The middle’s the important part. What’s cool about it is how many beginnings the middle has. This is a new beginning for me and I’m going to document the whole thing.
I’m Joseph Edmondson. I was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, then joined the U.S. Army at seventeen and was able to travel all over the world for the next eight years. In 2007, I needed to learn new skills to compete in the civilian world, so I started college and it changed my life. Since then, I haven’t been able to stop learning and just settle down. Now, I’m trying to turn my thirst for knowledge and wandering spirit into something that can benefit everyone.
I am a former teacher and a current student. Sharing what I learn is more important to me than anything else and this may be the best way to do it. Classrooms are awesome, but social media allows me to reach a larger audience and have more authentic engagements with a community of people with different backgrounds, of different ages, and in different places. Places are important to me because they shape us. A place’s history has such an impact on its present, its people, and its possibilities, that I must explore it. I plan to do that through a blog, a book, a podcast, and photos.
When I’m not blogging or studying, I’m reading for fun. Other than reading, I spend my time running, lifting, or driving around aimlessly (sometimes for Uber). A perfect day for me would include a long conversation filled with laughs, a pick-up game of basketball, a good meal, and a chance to learn and discuss something new.
