Sometimes home’s at the beach

What is Rounding Third?

Rounding Third is a metaphor for finding home. In baseball, when a player rounds third, they are heading to score. In life, home is where the heart is. Think of whatever sayings you’d like applied to home and you’ll understand the concept.

Between work and home, there are other places we go. Maybe they’re libraries, bars, coffee shops, the gym. Maybe you talk to people there. You’re a teacher, they’re doctors and attorneys, custodians and clerks, but it doesn’t matter who you are, it matters that you’re there. These are third places. They’re open to the public, they allow conversation, they are your homes away from home.

I am on a mission to figure out what makes them special and what helps so many people become regulars there. I want to tell stories about those people, their relationships with each other, their histories, and how it’s all connected. I hope you’ll join me.

I am new to this so there will be growing pains. That’s okay. We’ve got time to figure it out and make it the best it can be. Nobody’s perfect!

Thanks for visiting.
